My experimental video i produced is called Money,Money, MONEY! And my main character i used was Anthony Spikesman, the concept of my video is about using money in the right way, and how it can change people using it for the worst (being greedy) or giving it away for the good (charitable). I have also used experimental techniques from editing it slightly, such as making it play in a fast reverse, then fast forwarding it again, in my opion i feel that this made it make sense more to the viewers because i was using two diffrent endings. My video turned out a little different from what i was planning, my planning was very simple and also wheer i was planning on filming it, that also changed. On my plan i was thinking of filming it at Horsham Skate Park and having a £5 note crawling around up to someone, then that person would act out how they would use/spend that money, then having the same idea of the money crawling around to someone else then they would act out how they should use the money, each of them would either do a bad/ greedy thing to do with the money and the other good/charitable. The idea i did was very different to this as i only had one actor and i didnt use the location of Horsham Skate Park, i used my house, the road where Anthony Spikesman lives, and the Carfax in Horsham Town. It was also more of a vivid idea, but the concept did stay the same, i do think that the concept shown through to the audience more with the new idea i did.
When i presented my video to my audeince; Jazmine, Caitlin, Adesh, and Tom they were all stunned and they enjoyed it. My audience all understood the concept of my video which i was pleased with as this is what i wanted from my audience when i shown the viewing to them.
If there was anything i could do differently next time, i would of recorded the footage all in time so i had more time to edit it. i presented in the classroom in collage, i deided this beacuse i thought i wanted to show it in a big and spacious room, i wanted to also have a big sreen to show it on and a good sound system.

Production Diary
Shooting day 1- Today i took stop frame animation pictures of a £5 note crawling through the letter box, along the hall way floor then up the side of the table then to sit there on the table. I had Anthony spikesman helping me with placing the money bit by bit, while i took the shots. It took about a hour to do this footage. This went well as i had someone helping me do it, and it looks really good as i played it in sequence.
Shooting day 2- Today Ant and me filmed the first part of the footage, it was filmed in my house and it was the next bit on from the crawling money. Ant is the main character used in my video. The first part of my filming i did was Ant coming down staires and walking past the table and catching money in the corner of his eye on the table and taking it. This didn't take too long as it was a easy bit to do, and it was easy to edit as there wern't many mistakes made.
Editing Lesson- In this lesson i edited the footage i already had and put it into sequence on IMovie HD. I also had to sort out the stop frame animation pictures to be cut down as they came up 5 secs long when played, once they were cut down they looked much better and more animated. I also put the footage sequence before the video footage.
Shooting Day 3- Today we carried on the footage from where we left off, him leaving the front of the house and skating down his road on the way to Horsham town, i had to make sure it was clear weather for me to film this.
Shooting Day 4- Today we filmed the last two different endings for my video that are both going to be used, we used the location in the Carfax in Horsham town, and used the Charity shop 'Help the Aged' . The two endings are going to represent greediness, and Giving. I represent this by having one ending with Ant walking into the charity shop 'Giving' and the other him looking at the charity shop and keeps the money for him self which represents the word 'Greediness'.
Editing Lesson- Today i added the last bit of my video onto my edited footage. I also edited all the footage so it plays it fully and shows one ending, then edited it rewind backwards then fast forwarded then shown the other ending there could be, this went well beacuse it all went togther well and all played and fitted in the time limit of below 3 minuets. I made a track to go with it and got two unpublished 'Dub-Step' songs and mixed them both together this also went really well beacuse they both went together really well!

Khoda
Khoda is a stop frame animation piece, this piece was made and inspired by Reza Dolatabadi. This experimental video it took them 2 years and 6000 paintings to produce this 5 minute film.
'Khoda is a pyscological thriller , a student project which was seen as a mission inmpossible, by many people but then proved possible!'

Girl Chewing Gum-John Smith
The video 'Girl Chewing Gum' by John Smith was made in 1976, in black and white. Its 12 minuets long and persists of authoritative voice-over-pre-emps, the events occurring in the image, seeming to order cars, people, objects moving all in a normal street in the camera's view. The film draws attention to the control and the directional function; judging, imposing and creating a image.
The concept of this piece is about how media manipulates and judges people, John Smith starts the film by voiceing over the camera footage and imposes to the audience that he is directing the people and moving objects around, he then starts introducing charcters and judging the charactors then starts making up storys for example "This man has sweaty palms, because he has just robbed the bank." and makes the audience belive everything he is saying. By the end of the film, he confesses that he filmed the footage earlier that day, and edited the footage placing his voice over the top.

Chapter 6
Audience and audience interpretation- For each video we have watched we have watched it in classes and out of classes, everyone has had different interpretations and reactions for the videos we have seen with story lines. Whereas everyone has had different reactions to the basic video's and thought about their own point of concept.
When i watched the video 'koyaanisquatsi' it confused me abit, and was very destructive and made me think. But we all had different point of views of what we thought what the concept was. It doesn't matter if we have different opinions/reactions to video, because everyone is going to have different views on art work, that's what art is.
i don't think it matters if people don't have the same concept reaction because everyone has their own individual mind and its about how you want to Analise it, if everyone thought the same then it wouldn't be a piece of art.

Chapter 3
Narrative and Non-Narrative structures- In all pieces of work they either have a narrative or a non-narrative structure, for example in 'Muto's wall art animation' this has a non-narrative structure because it doesn't have a beginning, middle and end. Muto didn't need this in his piece of work mainly because he is showing off his craft and the story doesn't need this narrative structure because the audience just get the storyline as they watch it.
Like Muto, in the Tate Mordern the video 'Blood and feathers' has a non-narrative structure, it started with a foriegn women by a lake, covering herself with a big jug of blood and then rolling on the floor in swan feathers. This didnt make any sense to us when we first saw it, but in most art work you dont really need a narrative structure, because you dont need a whole story for a piece of art work. All it really needs is a concept. Like in this example this video, had a concept behind it and we had to figure out what that could of been.
Whereas the video 'Girl Chewing Gum', this has a narrative structure, the reasons for this is because it has a beginning, middle and end. Throughout the video the audience are believed to think that everything John Smith is saying, its true. It concludes that John Smith is making everything up and refers this video to how the media manipulate people. For this type of film this needs a narrative because it has a twist at the end to make a story.
Like 'Girl Chewing Gum', 'Doll Face' also has a narrative structure, with a begging of a robot women starting in a box, then to this women cloning herself to a 'perfect' women she see's on television, the flashing images on the televeision move away gradualy, and therefore the robot women wants to get closer to copy everything this women on the T.V has. In the end, she ends up trying to hard that she ends up broken on the floor. This has a strong narrative structure, this tells us exactly what is happening and then leaves the audience thinking whats going to happen in conclusion?
I think that video art work doesnt need a storyline because people dont really stay around looking at art work when they go see it, they pop-in and pop-out again, all they need is a concept that that explains the storyline for the audience in a simple and easy way.

Chapter 2
Technology and Techniques used-
Techniques and technology are very important in creating any type of video's for example, Muto its more relevant on its techniques rather than the technology, it uses more animation to let the audience know what they do .Over the years technology has increased and has become more useful and has changed vividly through the years. Technology started off very basic, it was also very difficult to get hold of good technology for example camera's and video cameras. Back then it was quite new to have also computers and camera's and that when new art started to emerge such as 'Girl Chewing Gum' which was filmed in 1976 in black and white with a voice edited over the footage taken, this was very new for people in the 70's which was a modern technique therefore this is mixing old technology with new.
Comparing to the computer animation 'Doll Face' which was made in 2006, it is more better quality and its easier for artists to to create and its better for doing real life animations, it is also always used to edit pieces of film footage and makes the quality of the film better, it does differ though. But in my opinion i really think technology is so much better than it used to be years ago.

Chapter 4
The first installation of artwork we looked at was 'Annlee You Proposes' by Liam Gillick, the artwork in on level 5 in the Tate, its based on 'No Ghost, Just a Shell' using the shell symbol from the well known Shell Garage, advertising it.
The whole room is based in a virtual animated space mixed in with phisical architerital space using cubes placed on top of each other, placed around the room, mixing bits of phisical everyday life furniture such as wallpaper on the walls, lamps and T.V's. There was 3 T.V's placed in the room all next to eachother that had the animated ghost girl talking, the room was also very cold which made me feel nervous, cold, and the feeling of someone watching me. This room made the art come to life by using these techniques and making me feel if we were in a room with a ghost by the temperature of the room. When I went into the next room it was the same video playing but this time in a pitch-black room with a cinema like screen. The room next to this one the lighting was different it was all white and had bright lighting and had posters and white neon lights shaped as the ghost girl staring at you, giving the feeling she is watching. It was quite creepy to me.
The next installasion of art work we saw was called Untitled (blood + feathers), it was projected onto the wall, in a dark room with cosey souroundings it made me feel more easy about it. The video was a naked coloured women standing near a lake, covering herself in blood then rolling her self in swan feathers. I thought that this was abit wierd at first but i think that the concept was that maybe she wanted to symbolise freedom and beauty by trying to be a swan.

Koyaanisqutsi
Koyaanisqutsi- life out of balance was created by Francais Ford Copila in 1983 and was funded by Gofrey Reggio. The duration of the film is 1 hour 25 minutes long. It's in a non-diegetic audio throughout the duration of the film, focussing on famous landscapes and city's in the united states involving the demolision, pollution, population of people, transport, and technology building up.
The film starts with an opening of cave paintings showing the start of evolution, of how the world started from simple and natural, then slowly moves to the famous landscapes around the united states such as The Grand Canyon showing the natural beauty of the world, the camera then focusses onto a more urban area New York City.
The audio used in the film starts with calm, relaxing music and makes the audience feel comftable with the repeating words 'koyaanisqutsi' it then races the audience through to a manic city where the music speeds up and becomes more powerful to show the rush of transport and the overcroudness in population of people, the music helps with the way you feel and makes you feel on edge and costraphobic. At the end it uses the same tune that started at the beggining of the film with the cave drawings and confuses the audience by useing the relaxing tune for a rocket exploading at the end and maks you feel comfatable with a distructive sight? It then uses the same start for the finish by then going back to cave drawings.
The concept view i think of this film shows evolution of life beginning, forming, and ending. Koyaannisquitsi shows that technology, transport, buildings etc is progressing more and more which is killing the enviroment and even the planet. It just shows how careless people are being in the world and how no one is thinking of the consequences in the nearer future, its how the saying goes; 'out with the old, in with the new'. The ending has a huge impact to the film and just tells us that society has changed from simple beginning (cave drawings) to a changed complex understanding (rocket exploding).

Andy Haung- Doll Face
In this experimental computer animation 'Doll Face' it shows the extreme lengths of what people go through to look 'perfect' or to clone people on t.v. who could be role model.
I feel that the concept in the video shows it is an unreachable goal by going to far causing themselves to be anorexic, going through plastic surgery, and just ending up fake. The women in the video tries so hard that she ends up broken, this signifies people to shattered inside because their not happy with themselves and go through so much to look 'beautiful' that they just ruin their natural beauty and end up looking ugly and fake. When the T.V moves more and more away it signifies that people look up to, these 'role models' and have an image in their head that, that's what perfect is and that's what everyone has to look like.
I think Andy Haung has given this name to the video 'Doll Face' so the viewer relates to a barbie doll, china doll, plastic, fake etc. Just tells you from the name that it's something that you can never be. The women is bombarded with images constantly flashing and it seems she gets brainwashed which people do get by the images on T.V shown, when a women appears on the screen with make-up on, it appears to look like a reflection of the machine women, she has the need to add that make-up too, the T.V screen moves up again with flashing images, the same women on the screen appears on the screen again with more for the machine to copy from, this is when the machine is looking up to the T.V and confirms that the women on the screen is her role modal and wants to be a clone of her. When the machine copy's the screen by applying make-up, skin colour, eye colour etc, with the machines appliances suggests it's plastic surgery by changing natural beauty.
Chapter 5-experimental video
My experimental video is going to be based on the work of 'Muto'. When looking at the video it is clever and looks like he took lots of time to do this, taking shot by shot then putting the images together to make it animated. I'm going to use this idea for my piece but also recording on a video camera and editing the recording i took.
This work has inspired me because the way it has been put together is really different and creative and i want my work to be like that and edited to be eye catching and creative.
The concept of my piece is based on money and how it can change people and what they do in everyday life, for example winning the lottery, earning more and more money, what extents people go through to have money and how they can change habits for the better.
In my piece taking part will be Tom Funnell And Tim Barty. My audience I'm going to have viewing my piece is a max of 20 people, friends and family aged 15+.

Chapter 1
The two artists i have been looking at are 'Koyaanisqutsi' by Godfrey Reggio and 'Doll Face' by Andy Haung. Koyaanisquitsi was filmed in 1982 whereas Andy Haung's 'Doll Face' was filmed in 1996, a past and more current piece.
In the film 'Koyaanisquatsi' its mainly about changes in the world, how it changed from simple to complex technology and population. It narrates a life cycle from beggining 'cave man drawings' to the popluation of people and technology growing more and more, getting rid of old and replacing with new, finishing with disaster for example a falling rocket. Whereas Andy Haung's piece 'Doll Face' has a completly different concept of the media lieing to us, and people cloning role modals of what they see is perfect. Starting with a robot girl, watching flashing images on television pausing on a face of a 'beautiful' women, with the robot girl cloning the women going through extreme lengths to be 'beautiful' and 'perfect'. It Finishes with the robot girl not reaching this goal and ending up on the floor broken.
There are some simularitys in the video's 'Girl Chewing Gum' by John Smith and 'Doll Face'. Girl Chewing Gum was filmed in 1976 when video equiptment was very new at the time and people had a very low budget, and the audience wouldnt have seen alot of experimental video before. The concept of the video is how media is minipulating people, John Smith shows this by using his voice in the background of everyday life so as if its like he is controlling/ directing everyone. He miniplutaes the audience to think the storys he is telling are true, later then reveals he recorded a street on a normal day, then just added his voice into it. Alike to the video Doll Face, Andy Haung shows how the media lies about body apperence and perfection. Both the concepts are very simular, however the context from both video's are very diffrent.
