The first installation of artwork we looked at was 'Annlee You Proposes' by Liam Gillick, the artwork in on level 5 in the Tate, its based on 'No Ghost, Just a Shell' using the shell symbol from the well known Shell Garage, advertising it.
The whole room is based in a virtual animated space mixed in with phisical architerital space using cubes placed on top of each other, placed around the room, mixing bits of phisical everyday life furniture such as wallpaper on the walls, lamps and T.V's. There was 3 T.V's placed in the room all next to eachother that had the animated ghost girl talking, the room was also very cold which made me feel nervous, cold, and the feeling of someone watching me. This room made the art come to life by using these techniques and making me feel if we were in a room with a ghost by the temperature of the room. When I went into the next room it was the same video playing but this time in a pitch-black room with a cinema like screen. The room next to this one the lighting was different it was all white and had bright lighting and had posters and white neon lights shaped as the ghost girl staring at you, giving the feeling she is watching. It was quite creepy to me.
The next installasion of art work we saw was called Untitled (blood + feathers), it was projected onto the wall, in a dark room with cosey souroundings it made me feel more easy about it. The video was a naked coloured women standing near a lake, covering herself in blood then rolling her self in swan feathers. I thought that this was abit wierd at first but i think that the concept was that maybe she wanted to symbolise freedom and beauty by trying to be a swan.

Koyaanisqutsi
Koyaanisqutsi- life out of balance was created by Francais Ford Copila in 1983 and was funded by Gofrey Reggio. The duration of the film is 1 hour 25 minutes long. It's in a non-diegetic audio throughout the duration of the film, focussing on famous landscapes and city's in the united states involving the demolision, pollution, population of people, transport, and technology building up.
The film starts with an opening of cave paintings showing the start of evolution, of how the world started from simple and natural, then slowly moves to the famous landscapes around the united states such as The Grand Canyon showing the natural beauty of the world, the camera then focusses onto a more urban area New York City.
The audio used in the film starts with calm, relaxing music and makes the audience feel comftable with the repeating words 'koyaanisqutsi' it then races the audience through to a manic city where the music speeds up and becomes more powerful to show the rush of transport and the overcroudness in population of people, the music helps with the way you feel and makes you feel on edge and costraphobic. At the end it uses the same tune that started at the beggining of the film with the cave drawings and confuses the audience by useing the relaxing tune for a rocket exploading at the end and maks you feel comfatable with a distructive sight? It then uses the same start for the finish by then going back to cave drawings.
The concept view i think of this film shows evolution of life beginning, forming, and ending. Koyaannisquitsi shows that technology, transport, buildings etc is progressing more and more which is killing the enviroment and even the planet. It just shows how careless people are being in the world and how no one is thinking of the consequences in the nearer future, its how the saying goes; 'out with the old, in with the new'. The ending has a huge impact to the film and just tells us that society has changed from simple beginning (cave drawings) to a changed complex understanding (rocket exploding).

Andy Haung- Doll Face
In this experimental computer animation 'Doll Face' it shows the extreme lengths of what people go through to look 'perfect' or to clone people on t.v. who could be role model.
I feel that the concept in the video shows it is an unreachable goal by going to far causing themselves to be anorexic, going through plastic surgery, and just ending up fake. The women in the video tries so hard that she ends up broken, this signifies people to shattered inside because their not happy with themselves and go through so much to look 'beautiful' that they just ruin their natural beauty and end up looking ugly and fake. When the T.V moves more and more away it signifies that people look up to, these 'role models' and have an image in their head that, that's what perfect is and that's what everyone has to look like.
I think Andy Haung has given this name to the video 'Doll Face' so the viewer relates to a barbie doll, china doll, plastic, fake etc. Just tells you from the name that it's something that you can never be. The women is bombarded with images constantly flashing and it seems she gets brainwashed which people do get by the images on T.V shown, when a women appears on the screen with make-up on, it appears to look like a reflection of the machine women, she has the need to add that make-up too, the T.V screen moves up again with flashing images, the same women on the screen appears on the screen again with more for the machine to copy from, this is when the machine is looking up to the T.V and confirms that the women on the screen is her role modal and wants to be a clone of her. When the machine copy's the screen by applying make-up, skin colour, eye colour etc, with the machines appliances suggests it's plastic surgery by changing natural beauty.
Chapter 5-experimental video
My experimental video is going to be based on the work of 'Muto'. When looking at the video it is clever and looks like he took lots of time to do this, taking shot by shot then putting the images together to make it animated. I'm going to use this idea for my piece but also recording on a video camera and editing the recording i took.
This work has inspired me because the way it has been put together is really different and creative and i want my work to be like that and edited to be eye catching and creative.
The concept of my piece is based on money and how it can change people and what they do in everyday life, for example winning the lottery, earning more and more money, what extents people go through to have money and how they can change habits for the better.
In my piece taking part will be Tom Funnell And Tim Barty. My audience I'm going to have viewing my piece is a max of 20 people, friends and family aged 15+.

Chapter 1
The two artists i have been looking at are 'Koyaanisqutsi' by Godfrey Reggio and 'Doll Face' by Andy Haung. Koyaanisquitsi was filmed in 1982 whereas Andy Haung's 'Doll Face' was filmed in 1996, a past and more current piece.
In the film 'Koyaanisquatsi' its mainly about changes in the world, how it changed from simple to complex technology and population. It narrates a life cycle from beggining 'cave man drawings' to the popluation of people and technology growing more and more, getting rid of old and replacing with new, finishing with disaster for example a falling rocket. Whereas Andy Haung's piece 'Doll Face' has a completly different concept of the media lieing to us, and people cloning role modals of what they see is perfect. Starting with a robot girl, watching flashing images on television pausing on a face of a 'beautiful' women, with the robot girl cloning the women going through extreme lengths to be 'beautiful' and 'perfect'. It Finishes with the robot girl not reaching this goal and ending up on the floor broken.
There are some simularitys in the video's 'Girl Chewing Gum' by John Smith and 'Doll Face'. Girl Chewing Gum was filmed in 1976 when video equiptment was very new at the time and people had a very low budget, and the audience wouldnt have seen alot of experimental video before. The concept of the video is how media is minipulating people, John Smith shows this by using his voice in the background of everyday life so as if its like he is controlling/ directing everyone. He miniplutaes the audience to think the storys he is telling are true, later then reveals he recorded a street on a normal day, then just added his voice into it. Alike to the video Doll Face, Andy Haung shows how the media lies about body apperence and perfection. Both the concepts are very simular, however the context from both video's are very diffrent.
